Carve a Wizard’s Staff

Our final session of the summer term and a small group joined us to make a wizard’s staff.

First we selected a tall thin ash sapling fron the school grounds. We felled this and then stripped it back, before cutting it into equal lengths using a bowsaw.

Then we carved our own design on the staff using a sheath knife. Some of us just removed the bark, while others created patterns including a spiral design. We also sharpened the end of the staff and some of us added a large coloured orb. It was a very peaceful, relaxed session and we all showed how good our knife skills are now.
