Our final Woodland Sprite session of the term was planned as part of National Water Safety Week and was all about pond dipping. We are very fortunate to have a large pond in our school grounds but pond dipping is always a matter of luck. Will you find something?
The weather ideal as we set off with nets, trays, bug boxes and identification charts. Safety talk over and we were soon dipping. The first nets went into the pond and came up with tadpoles and a newt – it was going to be a good morning!
We spent a good hour pond dipping and learnt lots of about the eco system of a pond. Then after a quick snack we set about making some bean bag frogs, which tested all our sewing skills! At the end of the session lots of excited children went home full of stories of what they had caught.
